How To Write Update Query In SQL

Introduction

In this article, we will learn how to write a SQL update query.

To modify the existing data in the SQL UPDATE statement is used.

Syntax

UPDATE TABLE_NAME
SET column1 = value1, column2 = value2, ...columnN = ...valueN;

Note: Be careful when using the UPDATE statement. Here, all records in the table will be updated! To update only selected records The WHERE clause is used.

Example-1

The subsequent statement would update all records in the Article table with a single field (Title).

UPDATE Article
SET Title = 'Introduction';

Example-2

The subsequent statement would update all records in the Article table with multiple fields (Id and Title).

UPDATE Article
SET Id = 'A0', Title = 'Introduction';
